The large standard model, and its particular buyer
The 16 Plus is the body that people buy specifically for screen size without paying flagship money. That buyer tends to keep the phone longer than average, which makes this a model with steady replacement demand rather than launch spikes — a useful line to hold for repeat business instead of one-off campaigns.
Its footprint is its own. The Plus is closer to the Pro Max in size but does not share its cut, so a Pro Max shell will not substitute and neither will one for the standard 16.
