The volume model — and why it deserves its own tooling
The standard iPhone 17 is the single biggest installed base in the range. The ring housing is formed in the same mould as the panel rather than glued on as a separate part, so there is no ridge to catch on a pocket. The soft-touch coating then runs over the whole back for a single continuous finish.

A magnet ring is laminated into the back plate and aligned for MagSafe chargers and magnetic car mounts, so the magnetic accessories the customer already owns work without an added metal plate.
