The volume model — and why it deserves its own tooling
The standard iPhone 17 is the single biggest installed base in the range. It is the handset that walks into a phone shop most often, which makes it the line that keeps a shelf card earning between flagship launches. That volume is also why it should never be sold as a “close enough” fit borrowed from another model: the camera opening and button positions are unique to this body, and at this order volume a mismatched cut turns into returns at scale rather than a handful of complaints.

Hidden until it is needed
Closed, the racket-shaped prop sits level with the rear panel and leaves nothing sticking out to catch a pocket. Opened, it holds the handset at a viewing angle for a worktop demo. The matte skin-feel coating covers the panel and the closed prop in one continuous finish.
Pivot formed in the mould
The prop is part of the same moulding as the back, not a glued-on plate, so there is no ridge along the hinge and nothing to peel away. On a matte body the closed prop is almost invisible until you run a thumb across it.
