A folding body changes what a case is allowed to do
The Fold opens along a hinge, so a single rigid shell cannot work: whatever covers the outer panel has to stop short of the hinge or wrap it without putting load on the mechanism. That is why fold cases are built in pieces, and why a fold SKU should never be quoted as a variation of a slab case.
The inner display is the part buyers are actually protecting, and it is also the part a careless case damages. Any edge that runs near the screen fold needs to sit flat and stay flat — a slightly raised lip that is invisible on a slab phone will press on a folding panel every time the phone closes.

The 2.0 mm plate handles the abrasion and the skin-feel matte finish keeps the surface free of fingerprints. Rails sit along both long edges, and the camera opening works in both states.
